Abstract

Hip resurfacing arthroplasty is a viable option for young male patients with end stage osteoarthritis. The controversy surrounding the technique has resulted in a decline in worldwide numbers being performed. However, with appropriate patient selection and well designed and proven implants it offers results equal or superior to that of a standard total hip replacement in this high demand population. In this focused paper we present the factors taken into consideration when selecting patients for the procedure in order to maximise positive outcomes.
