Sir Hersch Lauterpacht: An Appraisal

Abstract

The article presents the author's view on his commendation on the works and duties of Hersch Lauterpacht, an Austrian member of the United Nations (UN) International Law Commission. He considers Lauterpacht as an international lawyer of universal outlook due to his connection with Zionist affairs and Israel. He states that the loss of Lauterpacht's family in Poland has influenced the development of his estimations involving individual responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
