Abstract

Marital rape may consist of the husband coercing or forcing his wife to submit to sexual intercourse when she is unwilling, or to engage in specific types of sexual activities (such as oral or anal sex) that she does not want to perform. The incidence of marital rape is conservatively estimated at 400,000 offenses a year, and may actually be closer to 2 million. Yet these incidents are almost never reported to police.
