Abstract

In this communication, a 2 × 1 dual-polarized novel MIMO dielectric resonator-based antenna is designed and explained theoretically. The dimension of the given antenna is 100 × 50 × 14.6 mm3 and it resonated at three different resonating frequencies of 3.41 GHz, 5 GHz and 5.5 GHz covering the (n78/n79) 5G applications bands. The antenna is designed over an FR-4 substrate having a thickness of 1.6 mm. Alumina (Al2O3) is used as the ceramic material for the dielectric resonator. A modified triangular shape aperture is used as the radiating patch. The radiator exhibits dual-polarization characteristics, having isolation (|S12| < −20 dB) with a considerable gain of ~6 dB and achieve the radiation efficiency >90%. The simulated ECC and DG values show that the antenna has a better diversity performance. All these attributes make the presented MIMO antenna design an appropriate module of 5G applications.
