Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explain the interaction between police and urban society in Mexico City during the 1920's. Scenarios and everyday practices are analized in order to evidence rejection, abuse or negotiation of police authority during the reconstruction of Postrevolutionary rule. It turns out that in addition to the formal rules, the interaction was influenced by illegal rules systematized in shares, extortions and exchange of favors or gifts within the police force.
