For the last 14 years, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) from Israel and Palestine have worked together in an attempt to create a sustainable environmental future for both peoples; particularly those organizations focused on the management of limited water resources in the region. Their work has involved setting-up joint research projects, organizing conferences and seminars, promoting exchange of information, and fostering public awareness of environmental issues. While many such activities have been carried out with the blessing of the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority, others have taken place without official approval. This article describes the work being done and attempts an assessment of what has been achieved. © 2007 Springer.
