Abstract

The introduction of the iPhone onto the market is a perfect illustration of the way in which companies can generate legal resources in order to support their innovation strategies. Such resources, which are developed using elements from the external legal sphere, are designed to protect and increase the value of a firm's other resources. A firm's legal capability - in this case that of Apple - is expressed by its ability to determine whichlegal resources are best adapted to create this value (taking into account the fact that they may present a risk in relation to the legal sphere), whether in respect of regulatory compliance or the legal resources held by other firms.
