Abstract

From the entry into the Upper Nile swamps downstream to the Gebel Aulia Dam the great invasion by Eichhornia crassipes, probably in 1957/58, has become a major event. It is at present impossible to assess whether and what lasting biological changes will occur. The previous chapters written on this river region are based mainly on investigations depicting conditions which existed up to 1956. They are left as documentary record against future developments.
