Abstract

The geminate recombination of proton in the excited-state acid dissocn. was studied in 100 ps time domain resoln. by laser photolysis of 8-hydroxypyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonate (I) in H2O-MeOH mixts. at 60 Deg and pH 5.5-6. The fluorescence decay of I (at 440 nm) was studied at different NaNO3 concns. A suppression of the long-time fluorescence tail by the added salt was obsd. and is explained by a nonequil. screening effect which reduces the Coulombicattraction in the ion pair. on SciFinder (R)
