Abstract

Aluminium metal matrix hybrid composites find a wide spectrum of applications in automobile, aeronautical and Ship building sectors. In this study an attempt has been made to investigate the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of AA6061/SiC/graphite (Gr) hybrid composites with varying volume percentage of reinforcements. This work deals with the fabrication of AA6061/SiC/graphite (Gr) composites by Stir casting method with two varying volume percentage of reinforcements of Silicon carbide and graphite particles. AA6061/10wt%SiC/5wt%Gr and AA6061/3wt%SiC/1wt% Gr was taken for analysis. The mechanical and microstructural characteristics were carried out and results were evaluated. AA6061/10wt%SiC/5wt%Gr shows higher tensile strength and hardness compared with AA6061/3wt%SiC/1wt% Gr composites.
