Abstract

A participant gives his account of the history of electrophysiological dream research in the 40 years following the discovery, reported by Aserinsky and Kleitman in 1953, of rapid eye movement sleep and of its relation to vivid dreaming in the adult human. © 1996 American Sleep Disorders Association and Sleep Research Society.
