Abstract

Paper calls for a renewed effort to apply public health principles to addressing the HIV epidemic and for the improved integration of health care and public health services is needed. Outlines key components including epidemiologic trends, behaviors that increase risk, surveillance, case reporting, partner notification and treatment. Notes the "core interventions for the control of ccommunicable disease are prompt diagnosis, systematic partner notification and follow-up, and accountability for treatment of all patients."
