Abstract

The double-pinhole resonator with a localized mode bounded to the apertures was demonstrated by 3D simulation. The light coupling was engineered by making a bevel to the side wall of the pinholes. By changing the bevel angle, the radiation Q factor is tuned. When the radiation Q matches the absorption Q, the resonant absorption is optimized, making the device applicable as a nano thermal emitter. For application in superfocusing, there is no optimized bevel angle and a balance needs to be found between a small spot size and a considerable transmission.
