Abstract

This article presents a guideline for hiring academic librarians with faculty status and rank. An academic librarian ideally holds a master's degree in a content area, such as History, Education or Biology, and another master's degree in library science. It discusses a brief background on the development of the modern librarian as well as the history of the educational standard for library science.
