Abstract

The Internet, the booster of the modern industrial revolution and an important support of the modern lifestyle, has the characteristics of spanning time and space, and it is profoundly affecting the economic and social development of China. There are some disputes on whether in theory or in practice that Internet can narrow the gap between urban and rural development. Based on e-commerce, this paper analyzes the mechanism of using the Internet to narrow the urban-rural gap, and uses the macro and micro data of China s practice to carry out empirical verifi cation. The fi ndings show that the Internet is a positive force to eliminate the urban-rural gap as it has effectively alleviated the imbalance.
