7. The workshop as a research methodology: Lessons learned from workshops utilized as a participatory research method

Abstract

The workshop as a method for practical application has been popular in educational settings because it can promote active and genuine participation. However, in the field of education, examples of utilizing workshops to conduct research are lacking. Nevertheless, the workshop as a research methodology has been used in different fields of research due to the demand for doing research not only on participants but also with them. This chapter aims to explore how workshops can be designed and utilized as a research methodology in an education context, specifically in an early childhood education context, by showcasing an example of a case that used the workshop as a research methodology for carrying out international participatory action research.
