This study aimed to examine the factor structure of the MBTI. To this end, a database was used which contained descriptions and data for the MBTI, collected between 2006 and 2009 with a total of 6,460 protocols, for subjects aged between 14 and 77 years. Tw o studies were conducted. In Step 1, the results showed that all items are properly grouped to measure the psychological dimension in question. In Step 2, to perform the Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the sample consisted of 5,190 participants aged between 18 and 77 years. The results of this step pointed to four independent factors, functions of Judgment, Attitudes, Perception and Orientation, including all 93 items of the Brazilian version of the scale. These findings demonstrate the two steps are consistent with theoretical expectations.
