Abstract

A synthesis of trans-15,l6-dimethyldihydropyrene (1) is described. By all of the common criteria, including both spectral properties and chemical reactivity, trans-15,16-dimethyldihydropyrene is an aromatic molecule. This is the first example of an aromatic molecule having substituents within the cavity of the π-electron cloud. © 1967, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
