Abstract

The permeability barrier function of the epidermis is one of the most vital jobs performed by the skin; however, our understanding of the function and regulation of tight junctions in the epidermis remains limited. Helfrich et al. identify a key role for atypical protein kinase C (aPKC) activity, as a component of the Par3-Par6 polarity complex, in epidermal barrier function. © 2007 The Society for Investigative Dermatology.
