Since its origin, telecommuting enormously evolved to become, as of today, a widespread and multiple form of work. The goal of this paper is to relate the evolution of traditional telecommuting to multiform telecommutingmainly summarised by the alternated, mobile or independent telework. Partly based on empirical results and after having redefined the multiple concepts related to the subject, the telecommuting is put in perspective in today's context, estimated favourable for its evolution. If telecommuting requires a critical judgement regarding the impact it can have on individuals and the organisation, our posture rather aims at showing that telework is a flexibility tool thought as and established as a component of a wider and more complex construction than the one identified in the jargon as «flexibility of the organization» or «new forms of organization «.
