Abstract

The dependence of the character of the course of the disease on the form of osteomyelitis, terms of diagnosis, and character of surgical intervention is discussed on the basis of an analysis of observations and treatment of 137 children with acute hematogenous osteomyelitis. Problems of antibacterial therapy and rational immobilization of the affected extremity, the method of physiotherapy and the dynamics of X-ray changes in bones and soft tissues during treatment are considered. Among the children with acute hematogenous osteomyelitis, 84.7% recovered, 13.1% developed the chronic form of the disease and 2.2% died.
