Abstract

The article discusses nook, an electronic book, or e-book, reading device developed by the bookselling firm Barnes and Noble (B&N). The author notes that nook was created to compete with Kindle, a e-book reader created by the Internet bookseller Amazon, and discusses the design and functionality of nook. Nook can also play MP3 music files but does not include a web browser. B&N offers customers free Wi-Fi service within their stores, allowing customers using nook to browse e-books. Nook owners can also lend e-books to computer and smartphone users. The author comments on the marketing of nook in B&N stores.
