Abstract

The subject of this paper is the "sounds of our environment', understood as "sensory items' composing the perception of the urban landscape. Their study becomes as such a cognitive approach to urban space. Urban forms, their uses and social practices respond to one another and integrate themselves into sonic atmospheres. The qualification of the latter, whose scope extends widely beyond the borders of acoustics and metrology, will be eventually be able to inform us about the life and the uses of urban spaces. -from English summary
