Abstract

The paper presents a review that emphasizes critical evaluation of the different methods used for the determination of the longshore sediment transport rate. The assumptions underlying the use of a particular method are discussed and the degree to which these assumptions are violated or not is investigated from the reported data. Comments on the determination of wave characteristics are limited to discussing how the significant wave characteristics were obtained and used to determine the wave energy flux factor.
