Repercussions of conjugality in internalizing and externalizing symptoms of adolescent children

Abstract

Parent's conjugality reverberates in adolescent development, although specifics of these relations still needs further national studies. Was investigate adolescents' perception about the marital relationship of caregivers and what dimensions of conjugality have repercussions on internalizing and externalizing symptoms. Quantitative research was carried out, with an explicative design. 115 teenagers answered Familiograma, FBQ, CTS2 and YSR. It was verified positive and significant correlation between perception of conflict and marital violence with symptoms, as well as a negative and significant correlation of affectivity and parental alliance with symptoms. Marital psychological violence committed by mother was a predictor of internalizing and externalizing offspring symptoms and parental alliance were predictive of externalizing symptoms. We address the need for preventive action in households with violence.
