Abstract

Knowledge-Based society is characterized by the generation, assimilation and diffusion of knowledge to promote innovation and development. This article reviews the indicators brought forth in the international arena and discusses in particular, those monitoring innovation, access to knowledge, social use of technology and economic development. Based on these indicators the present situation of the knowledge-based society in Latin America is assessed. The results point to gaps and asymmetries between countries.
