Abstract
Canadian apparel manufacturers need to depend on strategic planning to face the challenges of increasing pressure from retailers, economic globalization, and the approaching removal of all quotas in January 2005. In the tough competitive environment, the retailer's demands for best services and prices from their suppliers are causes of concern for the apparel industry. To be the global winners, the apparel companies will have to focus on specific segments, along with gaining expertise in it. This would include studying the market, assessing the company's strengths and weaknesses, selecting the segment which gives maximum opportunity to succeed, and assessing the value chain.
