Breast Augmentation: Inframammary Approach

Abstract

The commonest and simplest way to access the subpectoral or subglandular plane for the placement of a breast implant is through the inframammary incision which is commonly made at or just above the existing inframammary fold (IMF) in an effort to keep the scar in the crease. This access incision is the safest way when any corrective breast procedures are to be undertaken or a salvage procedure is carried out in implants placed through the transaxillary route or periareolar route. The scar of the incision is well hidden specially in Type 1–4 skins. This chapter discusses the step-by-step procedure to undertake a successful breast augmentation through the inframammary incision.
