It seems like a lot more is known about the Tlingit than some of the other northwest coast cultures described in this volume, maybe because the Tlingit were such a large tribe. Regardless, this chapter only addresses the coastal Tlingit, but it has a lot to say. There are detailed descriptions of many parts of Tlingit life, from subsistence to settlement patterns to social organization. A lot of attention is placed on what happens in each phase of life, and there is a section on the history of the Tlingit since contact.
