Abstract

(Introduction) The emphasis on the learner, which emerged with the advent of learner-centered approach, manifested itself in the field of L2 academic writing as an emphasis on the learner's attitudes towards and perceptions of different aspects of writing, or as Johns (1997) put it, their "personal theories" of literacy. Since these theories influence students' writing behaivor, it is essential for writing instructors and tutors to understand how they are formed and how they develop.
