Abstract

To achieve sustainable development in developing countries it has become clear that environmental considerations must be taken into account. Environmental impact assessment should be undertaken at all stages of the planning process from project choice to implementation, and technology assessment should take into account the effects on the environment. To succeed in these objectives it is necessary to build up the technology assessment capability and to use the indigenous environmental management experience of the people. © 1991 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
