Abstract

Media scrutiny means it is becoming harder for chief executives to find a new job if they leave under a cloud. The Department of Health is considering a set of standards for managers but this could lead to some being blacklisted. Chief executives could be better supported by strategic health authorities, and helped through difficult times.
