Abstract

The novel form of multireference perturbation theory, which has led to the development of a suite of quantum-chemistry codes written exclusively in C++ is discussed. Observations that are of generic importance in the context of object-oriented scientific program development are given. In the context of scientific programming, a standardized implementation of many recurring concepts is very desirable.
