Abstract
This chapter examines the different meanings of ‘disclosure’ under information law, particularly under trade secret, patent, and copyright law, and proposes a typology of disclosure to more easily differentiate these meanings. It shows that the act of disclosure under law does not always result in a public disclosure that destroys information rights and, therefore, that the rhetoric of disclosure is often misleading.
