How do teenagers represent violence when, during their childhood, they experienced the terrorist attacks perpetrated during the 'Black Decade' of the 1990s. The author of this article interviewed 24 teenagers living in the town of Boudjeriou Messaoud in the province of Constantine (Algeria). Two methods using association were used during these interviews, namely J-C Abric's associative map (1994) and P Vergès's free evocation technique (1992). The results obtained express a set of ideas relating to the effects of terrorist violence centring around the notion of death and in which death assumes a variety of masks, including slaughter, massacres etc.
