Abstract

- Read for PIES 11/04 - Actually not an evolution paper but a study of muscle fibers in the expanding dewlap of the anole, and its sexual dimorphism. Composition, in terms of 3 basic kinds of muscle fibers in vertebrates, was similar between sexes (all 3 kinds), but slow and postural fibers were more numerous in males, and fibes were thicker in males. This difference, perhaps mediated by T, may aid males in expanding and maintaining expansion of their much larger dewlaps.
