Abstract
JatiPlusPerhutani(JPP) is a fastgrowingteak (Tectona grandis L.f.) species thathas been developedsince 20 years ago by Research andDevelopmentCenterof PerumPerhutanithrough a serialprogram of tree improvement. Atthe same age, stem diameterof this superior teak tree is larger than that of the conventionalteak. However woodbehavior during , kiln dryinghasnotbeenmuch studied.Thisstudy examineddryingpropertyandquality of 5, 7and9 yearoldof JPPwoods in relation to theirwoodbasic properties Results showedthat basic properties of JPPwoodare inferiorcomparedthan those . of conventionalteak wood. Drying property andquality are affectedsignificantly by cellwallthickness, juvenile woodportion, heartwood-sapwoodpercentage,MFA, initialmoisture content, wooddensity andspecific gravity, aswellas growth stresses. Compared to those of conventional teak wood with similar in diameter (older tree), drying quality of JPP wood until 9 year-oldwas stillpoorandunfavorable. Basedon the drying quality andspecific condition of the JPPwood, the minimum- maximumdryingtemperaturewasaroundof 30-40°Cfor5year-old, 40-50°Cfor7year-oldand40-60°Cfor9year-old
