Abstract

The alkali and tholeiitic basalts are similar in their major- and LIL trace-element chemistry to the alkali and tholeiitic basalts of Hawaii. Olivine fractionation seems to explain intrasite major-element compositional variations. Apparently the seamount basalts and the Hawaiian Island basalts do not come from a single hot-spot source. -K.A.R.English
