Abstract

Chemically strengthened glass and sapphire have outstanding material properties making them indispensable for use in electronics manufacturing. Application areas are cover glasses of watches, displays of mobile devices, protection windows for cameras, and LED or OLED carriers. This article reviews a sophisticated laser ablation technique that enables drilling of bore holes with well‐defined geometries and the generation of complex freeform geometries employing an ultrashort pulse laser.
