Abstract

This review aimed to explore the deleterious effects of Schistosoma infection on the blood picture of infected hosts. International and local scientific search engines were navigated from till April 2021 for systematic reviews, clinical trials and experimental studies that address the hematological profile of the schistosomiasis-infected patients.  Anemia and eosinophilia are the characteristic hematological findings of schistosomiasis but controversy was found regards the effects of schistosomal infection on other blood cells which may be due to discrepancy in infected hosts, Schistosomes strains, various laboratory methodologies or phase of the disease.
