Abstract

An index to evaluate seriousness of damage suffered from an earthquake was proposed, in which the seriousness is defined to be caused by an increase in repair cost. The index was formulated considering the effects of engineering factors on repair cost increase, ie. the amount ef labor and the level of technology needed for repair work. the characteristics of the index are summarized as follows; A The index is cleary related to repair cost and repair time B. From the index, it is possible to grasp the amount of labor and the level of technology for repar work. C. In the index, factors in repair cost increase are enaluated from engineering point of view.
