Abstract

Concrete has high fragility alongside low rigidity and ductility. The properties of concrete can be improved with the addition of different types of fibers such as steel, polypropelene, coir and jute hence, it is named as composite concrete. In this study, the investigation is carried out with the effect of individual fibers and the combination of different type of fibers (i.e. steel + polypropylene; SPF and Coir +jute; CJF) by considering the various volume fractions i,e .0.5%,1%,1.5% and 2% under Uniaxial compression and flexure. The mix selected for the development of composite concrete was M30 grade. The compressive strength increases by 15% with the use of artificial fibers. The use of natural fibers (coir and jute fibers) increases the flexural strength but however compressive strength goes on decreasing with increase of fibers.
