Abstract

• Rest, analgesics and decongestants are indicated for common cold of viral origin • Lactoferrin, a natural ferrotropic glycoprotein commonly sourced from bovines, has demonstrated antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory actions and is easily orally administered • Evidence suggests that lactoferrin can be considered both a primary defence factor against mucosal infections and a polyvalent regulator that interacts with several microbial, viral and host components • Bovine lactoferrin is contradindicated in patients with dairy allergies/sensitivities.
