Abstract

Syndromic surveillance (SyS) is widely used but its usefulness is not widely accepted. We argue that the usefulness of SyS depends on determinants such as purpose, chosen data source, health system context, or applied statistics. In this study we focused on data sources of which various are used for syndromic surveillance. We aimed at answering the question: which data source is useful for which purpose and in which context?
