The future of pensions policy in Europe

Abstract

Peter Askins, former head of Defined Benefits Pensions Policy at the UK Department of Work and Pensions, examines the prospects for future pensions policy in the European Community. Focussing on the effects of increasing longevity, the baby boom generation, regulation and globalisation, he looks at the challenges facing policymakers and pension providers in terms of sustainability, risk and communicating the need for change in Europe with an ageing population and falling birth rates. © 2010 Macmillan Publishers Ltd.
