Abstract
The Araceae family is family known as the talas-talasan group. One of the unique things about Araceae is that it has spatha, which serves as a flower protector. The anatomical study of spathes is still very limited, so the purpose of this research is to understand the anatomical structure of the spathes of several plants in the Araceae family, including Dieffenbachia oerstedtii Schoot, Aglaonema commutatum Schoot, Spathiphyllum wallisii Regel, Anthurium plowmanii Croat, and Anthurium andraeanum Linden ex André. The fresh spatha was sectioned transversely and paradermally, stained by 1% of safranin. The slides were observed using a light microscope. The result showed that the structure of tissue generally resembles to the structure of leaves. The arrangement of tissues from the outermost to the innermost, namely the cuticle, epidermis, parenchyma, and vascular tissue. The types of stomata are tetracytic and anomocytic that distributed on both of leaf surface (amphistomatic) in all species, except and Anthurium andraeanum which have stomata only on lower surface (hypostomatic).
