Abstract

▶ Polypropylene, which is completely nonabsorbable, when used in a continuous suture pattern in the intestines, may act as a site of attachment for a foreign body. ▶ Suitable alternatives to polypropylene for use in a continuous pattern for closure of small intestinal surgery sites include absorbable materials with strength retention through day 14 after surgery, such as polydioxanone and poliglecaprone 25.
