Abstract

Medline and Embase were searched to 2002 using the search terms "cleft lip", "cleft palate", "smoking", "tobacco", "cigarette", "mother" and "maternal". Reference lists from retrieved articles and a monograph on neural tube defects were also examined for more studies.
