Abstract

Twenty-five patients with refractory obesity were fasted in hospital for an average of 25 days and, as expected, all lost weight. Within some months of going home most have regained the weight so lost and many previously regular attenders have defaulted. These unsatisfactory results indicate the need for further studies to evaluate the long-term use of fasting in obesity. © 1968, British Medical Journal Publishing Group. All rights reserved.
