The San Roque multi-purpose project in the Philippines is being designed and constructed by Washington Group International. The main dam, an earth and rockfill structure scheduled for completion in April 2002, will be the twelfth highest embankment dam in the world. The project will provide a 345 MW rated hydroelectric plant, additional flood control for the lower Agno river and irrigation for agricultural land. Details are given of the dam, rockfill zones and excavations, dam construction materials, river diversion system used during dam construction, powerhouse design, and spillway. The measures that were taken to bring the project ahead of its original schedule are outlined.
